Breathwork has moved from retreat centres into clinics, gyms, companies and coaching practices. If you want to guide others in 2027, here is a clear path to becoming a certified breathwork facilitator.

Step 1: Build your own practice

Good facilitators breathe first. Before you train, get to know different styles: slow, calming breathing, energising techniques and deeper connected breathwork journeys. Notice what happens in your body and emotions.

Step 2: Choose an accredited training

Breathwork is not regulated by law in most countries, so the quality of your training matters. Look for:

  • Enough hours. Weekend courses teach techniques. A professional training should cover safety, trauma and practice with real people. InnerCamp's training is 300 hours.
  • Accreditation from independent bodies such as CPD or the CMA, which helps with insurance.
  • Trauma-informed teaching, including contraindications and how to handle strong emotional releases.
  • Live practice with feedback, not only recorded videos.
  • A community and graduate directory, so clients can find you.

Step 3: Learn safety and screening

You will need to screen clients for conditions such as heart problems, epilepsy, pregnancy or recent surgery, and know when to adapt or refer. This is the part that separates a professional from a hobbyist.

Step 4: Practise, practise, practise

Most trainings ask you to run practice sessions with friends, family or fellow students. This is where confidence comes from.

Step 5: Get insured and set up

Once certified, get professional insurance, decide on one-to-one sessions, groups, online work or corporate workshops, and set your prices.

Step 6: Start working with clients
